More than 232 detainees from Rojava were released today by Syria’s transitional government as part of the January agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Damascus.

Some of the freed detainees presented handmade items they created in prison to relatives and friends upon returning home.

The release comes a day after tensions erupted at the court in Al-Hasakah over the removal of Kurdish language signs. Kurdish governor Noureddine Ahmed said the situation is now under control and Kurdish-language signage will remain in predominantly Kurdish areas.

Authorities also decided to send several judges from Al-Hasakah to Damascus for evaluation and selection to oversee judicial affairs in Rojava.
