During the meeting with the DEM Party's İmralı delegation, Abdullah Öcalan said that the law emerging through the political process is the key to opening the way for this process, ultimately paving the road toward a Democratic Republic.
The DEM Party's İmralı delegation held a three-hour meeting with Abdullah Öcalan and issued the following statement:
"As the DEM Party's İmralı Delegation, we met with Mr. Abdullah Öcalan on August 2, 2026.
During the meeting, Mr. Öcalan shared his assessment of the current process, the work that has been carried out so far, and the historic responsibilities of the coming period. He also entrusted us with conveying the following message to the public.
Öcalan's Message
'A journey of a thousand kilometers begins with a single step.
With this law, we are embarking on the resolution of a historic issue. We are at the beginning of a process of democratization that is at least as significant as the founding of the Republic.
Just as the establishment of the Republic required great sacrifice and dedication, the same seriousness and determination must now be shown for building a Democratic Republic.
This is not only necessary for the Kurds or for one particular side, but for everyone living on this land. The steps taken today will shape the future of the country and the region. They will pave the way for the development of democratic law and broaden economic opportunities. This will be a great service to 86 million people.
By organizing society, we are taking a historic step. This step will make a major contribution to both the economy and peace.
Not everything has been resolved yet. However, there is no reason to approach the situation with pessimism. What matters is that we properly understand the significance of this step and that everyone assumes responsibility for ensuring the success of this process.
The law that emerges through the political process is the key to opening the path before this process. In the end, it will open the door to a Democratic Republic.'
