The Iraqi Parliament held the presidential election on Saturday April 11. From the beginning, the PDK (Kurdistan Democratic Party) bloc boycotted the session and did not participate.
First round results:
Nizar Amedi (PUK) – 208 votes
Musana Amin (KIU/Hewlêst/Komel) – 17 votes
Fouad Hussein (KDP candidate) – 16 votes, despite the boycott
Abdulla Aliawi – 2 votes
Invalid votes – 10
Since no candidate reached the required 220 votes, the election moved to the second round between the top two candidates.
Second round:
Nizar Amedi – 227 votes
Musana Amin – 15 votes
Therefore, Nezar Amedi, candidate of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), became the President of Iraq.
