The National Security Strategy of the United States was published and signed by U.S. President Donald Trump. The Middle East is addressed in the U.S. national strategy as follows:
Our partners in the Middle East demonstrate their commitment to confronting terrorism and extremism, and the United States must encourage this direction.
The United States must compel these states (especially the Gulf monarchies) to abandon their traditional and historical forms of governance.
The key to a successful relationship with the Middle East lies in accepting the region, its leaders, and its nations as they are, while working together on areas of shared interest.
It is in the interest of the United States that the Gulf’s energy resources do not fall into the hands of a hostile adversary.
The region must not become a supporter, promoter, or exporter of terrorism against U.S. interests, and Israel must remain protected.
