Hama Hama Saeed, Minister of Culture and Youth of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), has issued instruction No. 1 of 2023 on media work in the Kurdistan Region.
This directive has caused a reaction of some journalists who fear that it is an attempt to restrict media work in the Kurdistan Region
Article (8) of the directive states: This directive, along with the journalism law in the Kurdistan Region, will be a criterion for deciding on issues that go before the judiciary.
This means that this guideline will be applied and decided in the courts of the Kurdistan Region alongside the Journalism Law.
